Eureka?

This seems to be 13.5 stitches. Does this look right? I am using 11 size circular needles. Do I still need to get the dpn? They didn't have them at the store I went to in that size. But I can look elsewhere. I also checked and I am definitely not twisting the stitches. I guess that little pattern is just going to be the way this knits up. It's ok. I like it.

It looks like 14 stitches/4 inches to me. But just like me, I think you'll have to go with it and we'll adjust the pattern if necessary. It shouldn't be too hard to do with this sweater, because you can try it on as you go.

You don't have to use double pointed needles. You can knit small pieces (like necks and sleeves) in the round with two circular needles--I can explain how to do it. One good thing about that, is if the needles are long enough you can try on the sweater anytime. If you want to do that, get a #11 needle that is longer than 24 inches.

You also may be able to do the neck with a 16 inch #11 circular needle by itself. That size is handy for hats, too. I think it might be too small to use for the yoke though.

Ok I have a 29 inch circular needle. Are you saying I need two of those? So, what do I do different from the patterN/

you need another size 11 needle, but it can be any length. You might want to get one that is one size longer (34 inches?), so you can try of the sweater as you knit it. OR, you may want to get a 16 inch needle which is handy for hats and necks.

Then you cast on the required # of stitches on one of the needles. Make sure the cast-on is not tight. Let me know when you've done that.

Ok, tell me next step to this method!

I tried four times on the dpn this weekend but I had problems for some reason.
